Having just graduated from St. Louis Priory School this past year, I can relate to some of the struggles of being a high school student. One of my biggest frustrations as a high schooler was that I felt that there were too many limitations for students to be impactful in their area of focus or expertise. There is so much untapped potential lying around that could be utilized for the greater good of society. So, I decided to take the initiative of founding my nonprofit, TejHospitality, with that key idea in mind. There are too many problems in the world, but I believe that by highlighting and tackling a few of them, the beginning of something constructive could take shape to make our shared home better, one step at a time. But, I cannot do this by myself. That’s why I’m asking you, the reader, to get involved. Any volunteering, financial support, and advice is greatly appreciated and no gift is ever too small! The world is in our hands—how will we shape it?
American individuals, estates, foundations and corporations contributed an estimated $390.05 billion to U.S. charities in 2016, according to Giving USA 2017: The Annual Report on Philanthropy for the Year 2016, released today.
Total giving rose 2.7 percent in current dollars (1.4 percent adjusted for inflation) from the revised estimate of $379.89 billion for total giving in 2015. While the numbers themselves are indicative of the sheer amount of philanthropy that there is in the United States, it's easy to focus on the numbers alone. However, these numbers do not tell the whole story -- they cannot. That's because the story remains unfinished; there is yet still so much to be done. America, we are only getting started.
TejHospitality's mission is to provide arts & crafts to local St. Louis area hospitals to make children's stays more comfortable. We cater to the children because believe that childhood development is very important.
Everything has to start somewhere. At TejHospitality, we decided to start our grassroots operations in our hometown of St. Louis. But we do not plan to limit our operations to St. Louis -- we soon hope to expand to Chicago by 2018.
Help us make life a little more fun for the young patients at hospitals within the Greater St. Louis Area. TejHospitality's founder, Tejas Sekhar, has lived in St. Louis nearly his whole life. Although he will be headed up to Northwestern University this upcoming fall, he has created this nonprofit in hopes of giving back to the St. Louis community.
We are always looking for volunteers to help continue our mission. Please contact us (tejas@cedgecorp.com) if you have any interest in volunteering in any way possible. We will work with you to provide opportunities to volunteer with us that works for your schedule.
One out of every six discharges from U.S. hospitals is for children 17 years and younger. While we may not be able to directly lower that number, we can sure do something to help those children. The children are the future -- to invest in a child is to plant the seeds of wisdom in the hopes that the fruits yielded shall be better than before.
We will gladly collect any and all donations that you can provide us with for children at St. Louis area hospitals. At the various hospitals that we cater to, we either drop care packages in hospital donation boxes or we directly bring the donations to the children.
